Aneurysm presenting as parkinsonism.

چکیده
A 25-year-old man presented with a 3-month history of gradually progressive right side hemiparkinsonism. On examination his Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale motor score was 12 on the right side. There were no other abnormal neurologic findings. Brain MRI and angiography showed a giant thrombus containing aneurysm of the left middle cerebral artery compressing the left basal ganglia (figures 1 and 2). Initially the patient refused neurosurgical intervention. At follow-up 6 years later his neurologic status remained unchanged (video E-1). The patient underwent surgery in December 2005 and his hemiparkinsonism was almost abolished (video E-2). Secondary parkinsonism resulting from unruptured giant aneurysms is rare. A patient with parkinsonism due to a giant middle cerebral aneurysm which was abolished after surgical excision of the aneurysm has been reported,1 but there is another case in the literature with asymmetric parkinsonism, due to internal carotid artery aneurysm, which did not improve after internal carotid artery ligation.2

Parkinsonism, gait apraxia and dementia associated with intracranial calcifications. A case report.
A 52-year-old Black man with therapy-resistant parkinsonism, gait apraxia and dementia but no endocrine abnormality was found to have extensive intracerebral calcifications which included the basal ganglia. Although most patients with radiological evidence of calcifications in the basal ganglia remain asymptomatic, a small group may present with an extrapyramidal syndrome that is usually progre...
متن کاملTransradial Neurointerventional Approach to Basilar Tip Aneurysm: Case Report and Technical Note
Cerebral angiography through transfemoral approach is preferred in most of the situation though in cardiovascular surgery transradial angiography is accounted as the superior standard. The present study aimed at presenting our early experience of transradial approach to cerebral angiography and intervention of a patient with basilar tip aneurysm that had inappropriate vasculature to perform rou...
متن کاملIntracranial Meningioma-induced Parkinsonism
An intracranial tumor is a rare cause of secondary parkinsonism. Our patient presented to our clinic for recently-developed asymmetric parkinsonism without pyramidal signs. However, a meningioma located in the sphenoidal ridge was identified upon imaging studies. This case suggests that additional causes should be considered when approaching patients with parkinsonism and that imaging studies c...
متن کاملStraight sinus dural arteriovenous fistula presenting with reversible parkinsonism
RATIONALE A dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF) refers to an abnormal direct connection between an intracranial artery and a dural venous sinus. A DAVF presenting with parkinsonism is rare, and is therefore easily misdiagnosed. Therefore, early consideration of DAVF in the differential diagnosis of reversible parkinsonism is necessary. PATIENT CONCERNS We present the case of a 51-year-old male...
متن کاملParkinsonism as a neuropsychiatric presentation in CNS gnathosomiasis: its prevalence.
Sir, parkinsonism (PD) is an important neuropsychiatric disorder. Kummer and Teixeira noted that “behavioral and psychological symptoms or neuropsychiatric syndromes associated with PD are frequent and may represent a challenge in the management of these patients.” The degenerative defect in brain tissue can be seen in the patients with parkinsonism. The exact etiology of parkinsonism is not we...
